A trust associated with the Bezos family is seeking approval from the city of Coral Gables to upgrade a dock at their Journey’s End compound. The request comes after companies linked to the Bezos Family Foundation purchased two neighboring waterfront homes in 2022 for a total of $78 million. The limited liability companies involved were connected to Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’ late mother, Jackie, and his stepfather, Mike. The purchases included an 8,713-square-foot residence at 9501 Journeys End Lane for $44 million and a 12,829-square-foot mansion at 9475 Journeys End Road for $34 million. Together, these properties cover more than four acres within the gated community.

Forgotten Fountain LLC has submitted an application requesting variances that would allow a boatlift to extend over 54 feet—more than double what current regulations permit—and mooring piles to be set more than 67 feet from the waterway banks, nearly three times further out than currently allowed. The city’s board of adjustment is scheduled to review these requests on Monday. Previously, the board of architects approved them in July.

According to the application, “The existing dock will remain.” It also states that relocating the boatlift and mooring piles closer to shore is not possible due to protected mangrove trees along the shoreline.

The Journey’s End Homeowners Association has signed off on the proposal, with president Louis Wolfson III providing approval.

Jackie Bezos passed away in August at age 78. She and Mike previously owned a home in Miami’s Palmetto Bay until 1984, shortly after Jeff graduated from Miami Palmetto Senior High School.

In September, it was reported by The Wall Street Journal that Mike Bezos plans a significant expansion of his family office called Aurora Borealis and recently appointed Valeria Alberola as CEO.

Jeff Bezos has also acquired waterfront real estate in Indian Creek Village—an area known for high-profile residents such as Jared and Ivanka Trump, Tom Brady, Jeff Soffer, and Carl Icahn—and is constructing an estate there.
