Duke Energy and the city of Terre Haute have announced a joint campaign to help local residents manage heating costs during the winter. The initiative encourages residents to use Duke Energy’s Home Energy House Call program, which provides free in-home energy assessments. Through this program, energy efficiency specialists visit homes to evaluate overall energy usage and check the performance of appliances and heating or cooling systems. After the assessment, customers receive a personalized report with recommendations for improving efficiency and lowering monthly bills.

“Making energy efficiency upgrades to your home is one of the most practical steps Terre Haute families can take to manage their energy costs this winter,” said Terre Haute Mayor Brandon Sakbun. “By teaming up with Duke Energy, we’re giving residents a simple, free way to make their homes more efficient and lower their monthly bills. It’s an easy win for Terre Haute families and a great example of what can happen when we work together to deliver real value to our community. I know that utility bills can be a major part of a household’s budget, and I’m thankful that Duke Energy came to the city with ideas to help residents in need.”

Customers who participate will also receive an energy efficiency kit by mail. The kit includes bathroom aerators, weatherstripping, water heater insulation pipe wrap, and a furnace filter whistle that can be installed by homeowners for immediate savings.

“We are excited to partner with Mayor Sakbun to bring Home Energy House Call to more customers across Terre Haute,” said Stan Pinegar, president of Duke Energy Indiana. “It’s a great way for families to get personalized recommendations and insights to help them save energy and ultimately money on their energy bills each month.”

The Home Energy House Call program is open to Duke Energy customers living in single-family homes, condominiums, townhomes or manufactured homes equipped with electric water heaters, electric heat or central air conditioning. In addition to in-person visits, virtual, phone and online assessments are available. Residents interested in signing up can visit Home Energy House Call or call 844.346.4366.

Duke Energy representatives will be at Terre Haute City Hall on Monday, Nov. 3 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m., offering sign-ups for the program as well as information about bill management programs and assistance funds.

Duke Energy also offers payment flexibility options such as Budget Billing, Pick Your Due Date and Installment Payment Plans for its customers. For those who qualify based on income level, partnerships between Duke Energy and state agencies provide access to state and federal assistance programs like LIHEAP (Low-income Home Energy Assistance Program), which helps eligible households pay winter energy bills through one-time payments.

Additionally, Duke Energy’s Share the Light Fund assists qualifying customers who are struggling with bill payments; this fund is supported by contributions from shareholders, employees and other customers.
