The Florida Public Service Commission (FPSC) has approved updated charges for Peoples Gas System, Inc.’s (PGS) Cast Iron/Bare Steel Replacement Rider (CI/BSR Rider), which is aimed at supporting the ongoing modernization and safety of Florida’s natural gas distribution network.

The FPSC also finalized its review of PGS’s actual and projected true-ups for 2024 and 2025. These adjustments have been approved and factored into the calculation of the new charges for 2026.

Starting in January 2026, residential customers will see a CI/BSR monthly surcharge of $0.01593 per therm. For a typical household using 20 therms each month, this means an increase of about 32 cents on their bill.

According to the FPSC, “The CI/BSR Rider funds the ongoing replacement of aging cast iron, bare steel, and problematic plastic pipe. For 2026, PGS expects to invest approximately $62.1 million in system modernization, resulting in an approved revenue requirement of $2.9 million after accounting for prior-year true-ups.”

Peoples Gas System currently provides service to more than 400,000 residential, commercial, and industrial customers across 14 service areas throughout Florida.
