Harrison Avenue in Panama City will reopen to the public on Tuesday, November 25, at 7 a.m. The stretch of road from Business 98/6th Street to the Panama City Marina has been closed for improvements and will feature a new speed limit of 15 mph, reduced from the previous 25 mph. This adjustment is intended to improve safety in the downtown area as recent upgrades have increased pedestrian activity.
A statement from city officials said, “Panama City is thrilled to welcome everyone back to a beautifully refreshed downtown—just in time for the holiday season! Over the last month, crews have been hard at work enhancing the area with landscaping, aesthetic upgrades, and underground utility improvements along 5th Street to Luverne Avenue. Additional underground work and paving at the 5th and 6th Street intersections were also completed during night shifts to minimize disruption. Thanks to their dedication to this project’s completion, Downtown Panama City is now vibrantly renewed and ready to welcome you—so come enjoy the charm, support local businesses, and make this season one to remember!”
The recent work included landscaping enhancements and upgrades beneath the streets along key sections of Harrison Avenue. Construction teams scheduled nighttime work at busy intersections such as 5th and 6th Streets in order to reduce impact on daily traffic flow.
