The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) has recognized the service and sacrifice of military veterans on Veterans Day in the United States and Remembrance Day in Canada. In a statement to members, IAM International President Brian Bryant expressed gratitude for those who have served.

“We owe a deep debt of gratitude to the women and men who have been on the front lines defending our freedom, protecting our democracy, and the ideals that unite us. Their bravery, sacrifice, and commitment to service represent the best of all of us,” said Bryant.

Bryant noted that many veterans bring their leadership skills back to their communities after their military service. “The same dedication that drives our veterans to defend our nation is what motivates them to build a better future for working families when they return home. Their leadership, discipline, and sense of unity strengthen our union and inspire everyone to keep fighting for dignity, justice, and respect at work,” he said.

This year, IAM achieved recognition as an official National Veterans Service Organization by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The designation makes IAM the first union with this status. As a result, IAM military veterans and their families now have direct access to essential benefits and trusted representation through the union’s Veteran Services Program.

“This historic designation highlights our union’s commitment to supporting those who have served in the armed forces. It ensures that IAM military veterans and their families now have direct access to essential benefits, trusted representation, and a steadfast advocate to help them navigate the system they have earned with honor,” Bryant stated.

In closing his message on behalf of IAM’s Executive Council, Bryant thanked all veterans: “To all IAM veterans and every veteran: Thank you! Your courage and service remind us what true solidarity looks like. We may never fully repay the sacrifice you’ve made, but we can—and must—honor it: by supporting each other, fighting for peace and equity, and ensuring every veteran and their family receive the care, opportunities, and respect they deserve.”
