Keith Meyerl has been named the new Parks, Culture and Recreation Director for the City of Panama City. He will start in his new role on December 9, 2025.
Meyerl joins Panama City with over twenty years of experience in parks and recreation management. He is currently the Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation for Panama City Beach, a position he has held for two and a half years. Before working in Bay County, Meyerl spent nine years with the City of Jacksonville, Florida. There, he served as Division Chief and District Manager, where he managed 140 employees, more than 300 parks, several facilities, and a $28 million operating budget. He also developed the Urban Parks Recreation Program in Jacksonville, which drew over 7,000 youth visitors each year.
Meyerl holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the University of Carolina at Chapel Hill. His previous roles include Regional Superintendent for Fauquier County in Virginia; Director of Parks & Recreation for Fluvanna County; Director of Aquatics & Youth for the City of Charlottesville; and Athletic Director for Fluvanna County. He is recognized as a Certified Parks & Recreation Professional by the National Recreation and Park Association.

Meyerl expressed enthusiasm about his new position: “I am eager to work alongside staff to deliver exceptional programs, facilities, and services for residents of all ages.” He added that he looks forward to “building a shared vision rooted in teamwork, community connection and continuous improvement.”
The city stated it welcomes Meyerl to its leadership team and anticipates the leadership and vision he will bring to this department.
