Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, and his wife Priscilla Chan have completed the purchase of a mansion on Indian Creek Island for $170 million. This transaction sets a new record for residential sales in Miami-Dade County.
The couple acquired the under-construction property from Dr. Aaron Rollins, a cosmetic surgeon known for his celebrity clientele, and Marine Rollins, a real estate agent. The Wall Street Journal reported that the deal closed on Monday.
The sellers originally bought the 2-acre site at 7 Indian Creek Island Road for over $30 million in 2020. Since then, they have designed and begun building a 30,000-square-foot estate with nine bedrooms. Planned amenities include a gym, hair salon, and a 1,500-gallon aquarium. Ferris Rafauli is responsible for the architecture and interior design.
The property was listed last November with an asking price of $200 million by Danny and Jill Hertzberg of Coldwell Banker Realty. Brett Harris of Bespoke Real Estate represented Zuckerberg and Chan in the transaction.
Zuckerberg’s move to South Florida has been linked to proposed tax changes in California. State lawmakers are considering a one-time 5 percent tax on residents whose net worth exceeds $1 billion. In contrast, Florida does not impose an income tax and is moving toward eliminating non-school property taxes on homesteaded residences.
Although this sale sets a Miami-Dade record, it falls short of Florida’s highest residential sale: a waterfront estate in Naples that sold for $225 million.
Other notable transactions in Miami-Dade include billionaire developer Vlad Doronin’s sale of his Star Island home for $120 million last year and Ken Griffin’s $106.9 million purchase of Adrienne Arsht’s Coconut Grove estate in 2022. Griffin also relocated Citadel’s headquarters from Chicago to Miami’s Brickell area that same year and plans to build new offices there on the waterfront.
Nationally, Ken Griffin holds the record for most expensive residential deal with his approximately $238 million apartment purchase in New York City in 2019.
