Oak Grove Field will be closed for maintenance starting November 29, according to a recent announcement. The closure is expected to last about six weeks as the city carries out routine work intended to keep the field in safe and playable condition.

Maintenance activities will include aerating, coring, and overseeding with winter rye. These processes are used to relieve soil compaction, improve airflow, maintain healthy turf, and provide fresh grass coverage during cooler months. Similar maintenance was performed recently at Frank Nelson Field.

City officials explained that this type of seasonal care is standard across parks in the area and helps prevent long-term damage. Once spring arrives, staff plan to repeat some of these steps and plant Bermuda grass, which is commonly used for playing surfaces in the region.

The city stated: “This seasonal maintenance helps ensure it stays in top playing condition for all to enjoy.” Officials also noted: “While the field will be temporarily closed, this is a normal part of keeping our parks in great shape and preventing long-term damage. The goal is to ensure Oak Grove Field remains a safe, level, and enjoyable space for everyone in our community once it reopens.”

The public has been asked for patience during the temporary closure while improvements are made.
