The U.S. Census Bureau has released the 2023 Business Dynamics Statistics (BDS), offering updated data on key business trends across the United States. The BDS provides annual information on job creation and destruction, as well as statistics about the birth and death of establishments and firms. This dataset covers a time series from 1978 through 2023.

According to the Census Bureau, “The data provide measures of business dynamics, such as job creation and destruction, establishment births and deaths, and firm startups and shutdowns for the economy overall and aggregated by establishment and firm characteristics.” The release is intended to help users analyze economic shifts at both macroeconomic levels and by specific business characteristics.

The BDS dataset is accessible through several platforms, including its dedicated website, the Census API, and an interactive tool called BDS Explorer. This tool allows users to visualize data with line charts, bar charts, thematic maps, or create custom tables for deeper analysis.

To learn more about these resources or access the latest statistics directly, interested parties can visit BDS or use the BDS Explorer application provided by the Census Bureau.
