The U.S. Census Bureau has released preliminary data from the 2024 Annual Survey of School System Finances, offering an early overview of public school spending per pupil for pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. The initial findings also include state-level summary statistics on revenues and expenditures for public school systems during the 2024 fiscal year.

According to the Census Bureau, fiscal years may differ across school systems and the survey data have not been adjusted to create a uniform fiscal year among them. The agency noted that these figures are provisional and could change before the final dataset is published.

The Census Bureau plans to release comprehensive data for all 50 states and the District of Columbia in 2026.
